Has anyone else had this with their betta?

Dave ate one, and spat the other 2 out and hasnt touched them

so i gave him a tetra pro vegetable flake, and he ate that

seems he doesnt like the hikari gold, or is it just because its a new thing?

My girls love it, splashing around in the water going mad for it

also, i heard about mixing chicken and garlic etc to feed them, how do i do this?

Lol not tried that but i did try him on Tetra Betta after hes been munching on blood worm and brine shrimp..

Wouldnt touch it.. swam to the front of the tank and looked at me like i was a sack of sh** lol

I felt guilty and caved in

ive always fed him on tetra pro vegetable as it has a nice chunk of spirinula in the middle, whiche he loves

He also eats bloodworm, brineshrimp, chopped up mussel, pea's

i got the hikari betta gold as people on here use it and ive always got positive feedback on it, but dave does not like it lol

i wana try the chicken thing, help guys

My betta George doesn't like Hikari pellets either, I don't think they are as good as people make out. Mine both prefer Tetra Betta.

dave prefers the tetra pro vegetable

he goes mental for it, its not especially for betta's tho, which tbh doesnt really matter as he has a varied diet

LOL all you want, fish LOVE!!!garlic, Kent Marine makes concentrated garlic drops for finicky fish(it's real expensive)however you can just get a clove of garlic, smash to release the juice and then rub the food around in it. The problem with the Bio Gold might be it's kinda big, so you could try cutting it in half, also I soak all my pellet food to soften it let it expand a bit in the water first and not in the fish. PS garlic has antibacterial/antiviral and antiparasitic properties in both humans and fish

the pellets r fine size wise, he just didnt seem to like them after tasting the 1st pellet lol

what about chicken, how do i make it edible for him?

I hadnt heard about the chicken before but I would try do the same thing, let the food soak in some of that little bloody juice from the chicken(like marinade)

erm, are u mad?

raw chicken is dangerous to us, im assuming its the same for fish

i think ur ment to cook it 1st

no I'm not mad, it was just a guess. Live brine shrimp and blood worms are dangeruos to us too, so I don't know if the chicken blood would really be bad for them or not(but I'll bet they'd like it). Anyway I just use the garlic myself

i think i'll stay clear of rubbing my betta's food in chicken blood

this is a recipe for making your own betta food, maybe you could use chicken instead of hearts???
That's a lot of bw for one little guy! I've been giving my new guys brine shrimp. I just put a few on the tip of a spoon and dangle it in the water a bit. They're curious enough to come up to it, and once they figure out what it is, they gobble it up.

I'm going to make this as soon as I find a couple beef hearts... it supposedly promotes rapid growth and bright coloring...

From AngelsPlus.com

2 fresh raw beefhearts
2 lbs raw peeled shrimp
5 oz of steamed, finely chopped spinach
1/4 lb of cooked, finely chopped carrots
1/4 lb of krill powder
1 oz of spirulina powder
1/2 tsp of liquid vitamins
6 tablespoons of unflavored gelatin
Premium flake food - approximately 1 lb

De-vein and remove all fat from the beef heart. Use a food processor to chop the prepared heart to a very fine consistency ( a minute or so with the chopping blade). A meat grinder can also work well. Pass it through the grinder twice. Mix heart, shrimp, vegetables, krill powder, spirulina powder and vitamins in a large bowl. Dissolve gelatin in hot water. Mix the dissolved gelatin liquid into the beef heart mixture. It helps if the mixture is warm. Add the flake to thicken. The amount of flake added will vary with the amount of water in the mixture. You can use krill powder for the same purpose. Try to get it to the consistency of thick oatmeal. The more shrimp you use, the less gelatin you need. Ground, raw shrimp is like glue.

Immediately, place paste food in plastic fish bags and flatten to a thickness that when frozen, is easily broken with your fingers. Refrigerate for at least 3-4 hours before freezing. To feed, break off chunks of the frozen mix, and just drop it into the tank. The fish can readily eat from the chunk of food mixture. Trying to break it apart can foul the water.

Substitutes: You can use very lean beef instead of heart. You can also use fish instead of shrimp, but fish will not bind the food as well and will require more gelatin. You can substitute different broadleaf vegetables for the spinach.

This is a bit of work, but the effort is worth it after you see the results it makes in your fish. It may take your fish a day or two to figure out that this is food and that it's good. Get them hungry and then feed very small amounts at first. Clean up any uneaten food immediately. Once they get used to it, they will ravenously attack it, and grow as fast as possible with vibrant color.
