I've stuck a post up in new world cichlids without too much joy, so thought I'd try here. Basically, I'm new to cichlids and want to set up my new tank (3ftx1ftx1ft/85L/22USG) as a dwarf cichlid tank.

I'm after a few species that will get along happily enough and tolerate my water conditions - 7.4 at the tap, once the tank is set up its likely to be 7.6+ in the tank. Is this going to be practical? I've listed a few species below that tick the boxes from what I've read so far, but I freely admit I'm well out of my depth at the moment any information people can give me is appreciated.

Is this a workable idea, and any tips if so? I'm close to chucking in the idea and trying to breed galaxy rasboras instead, but have been keen on dwarf cichlids for awhile so I thought I'd try a post in here instead.

I have the same hardness problem and am unable to raise dwarf cichlids like rams etc.

I now have Neolamprologus multifasciatus tanganyikan shell dwelling cichlids. I am sure they can be safely housed with one or two other types of smaller cichlid.

:)

Kribensis Cichldis would do great in that tank. But so would cockatoo's and such. I have a ph of 8.4 - 8.6 and i have a female cockatoo apistogramma that is thriving ( even with one usable eye).

Cheers. I'm not keen on how Kribs look, but am slowly settling on what I want in the tank. I should be getting some Fairy Cichlids in the next couple of weeks, and I want to add a few cockatoo apistos (cacatuoides is the cockatoo, right?) some time after that. Beyond that my mind isn't made up.
