Hi - I last posted about high ammonia levels after struggling to reduce it to zero. I was eventually successful with this and eventually my nitrite rose then went back down to zero, then nitrate stayed at about 10. Therefore I thought my tank had cycled. I read online about getting another filter to help keep on top of ammonia levels, etc and also thought it was a good idea in case my original filter broke whilst I was away. As I was adding this to the tank, I noticed that my fish seemed to have ich, so I am currently treating the tank for this. However, I have done my water tests this morning and noticed the nitrite levels have gone nearly off the scale.
I know I should probably do a major water change but I am unsure whether this would get rid of the ich treatment and also wonder if it is this that has made the nitrite levels change so rapidly? I would just like to hear some suggestions as to what to do and also why the nitrite seems to have risen so high?

It's also possible that the nitrite rose and stressed out the fish allowing the ich to surface. Have yo fed extra recently or did the nitrite spike is just come when you put in the meds?

Removing most of the water to improve the nitrite levels will also remove most of the ich treatment but it must be done. There is not much point in curing an ich outbreak while killing all of the fish with nitrites. Do your water changes and get the nitrites under control as quickly as you can so that you can then dose for the ich again. You can figure the ich treatment in the water will go down just as much as the nitrites, so if you reduce nitrites to 5% of the original reading, you will have done the same to the ich treatment. This is just to give an idea of how to estimate the right amount of treatment to add back in.
