Hi, my name is Sara, and I just joined your group, looks like there is alot of knowledgable people here, and I like the design of your forum.

I already have a question, I am medicating my lil 5 gallon tank for ick, and I have one surviving fantail left, only has a couple white spots left on her tail, how long after all signs of ick are gone do I have to wait to add more fish? Thanks in advance.

I won't move this to newbie's since it has a question involved. Sara, what kind of fantail? A goldie? You won't want to add anymore to a tank that size. She'll soon fill it up by herself.

ich is a tricky thing because it really only attacks fish when they're stressed. So if you can find out what is stressing your fish (for exampe too many in tight quarters, poor water quality, drastic temp changes etc etc) then you're on your way to remaining ich free forever

Welcome Sara! Hope your fish is doing better. I'm with wuv on this one. Sounds like your goldfish should be the one and only fish in there.....

Well the fantail goldfish is doing better, only has a couple spots left still, active, and eating good  . I know how fantails grow, I have 2 of them that I have had for 5 years, this is the first time I have ever had ick, and I set up my lil 5 gallon tank the exact same way I did when I started with my 5 year olds. They are now in a 30 gallon, and I am going to be switching to a 55 gallon in a month or two, and that is why I am starting some more in a smaller tank so they can get a head start before we get the 55 gallon. There is plenty of room (with the size they will be before I move them) to put 2 in, they are group fish, and will be more stressed without another of their kind. Thanks for the input.

Hi Sarah,

I have battled the dreaded ick b4 (nasty little buggers). I would wait a good week or two with no signs of ick and plenty of water changes. ofcourse quarantine any new fish b4 it joins your fantail (i'm sure you do that anyway)
good luck!
