Can I buy a 300 Watt External In-Line Heater NIB Hydor ETH In Line for my 30 gallon? it wont boil my fishies?
its recommended for tanks between 50-80 gallon but i want to buy this one than the 200 Watt External In-Line Heater NIB Hydor ETH In Line incase I upgrade my tank later and i can use this for my other upgrade tank , thx
One word of caution - If heaters fail, they tend to do so whilst in the on position. A 300W heater stuck on will raise the tank temp on a 29 gallon to a level that could kill your fish very very quickly. There is more of a safety margin with a lower wattage heater.
I use a single 300W heater on my 125 gal, which is plenty. I would reccommend getting a 100W/150W for a 29 gal.
I also got the 300w for my 120l tank following the same reasoning as you. They are supposed to be good heaters and since the technology is different from the internal ones I hope there is less chance of it over heating.
Personally I decided to take the risk. I presume that you are looking at the same seller as me where you could get either for the same price. Who am I to turn down and extra 100w?
Only thing is watch your externals tubing. I took ages getting it on to the eheim 12/16mm tubing but it will fit at a push.
