Hi guys I’m new to the forum. I have a new 55 gallon gold fish tank that is full of air bubbles. I have been gone for a month. they hardly ate so how can ammonia come in. I did a water change and all it did is take away the stink ( there was a very bad stink ). Should I continue the water changes or is there a better method. Btw 1 fish died ( most likely because of under feeding ).

Did you cycle your tank so that beneficial bacteria grows on your substrate, glass and filter? If not, that is the problem. You could add lots of plants including floating plants to take up some of the ammonia and nitrites.

You might also buy a bottle Tetra brand safe start to help build up some beneficial bacteria. Whenever you get an ammonia or nitrite spike you need to do a 75% water change.
