Hi Help Wanted **updated 30.01.09**

It's hard to tell from that angle. Dropsey is where the scales raise and the fish bloats out. Take a look at the fish from above. If it looks like a pinecone, you have a fish with dropsey, if it just looks fat, you are probibly ok.

There is some blood-shottedness (if that's even a word  ) to the dorsal fin of the Pepper Corry in the last photo. That could be either bacterial or as a result of ammonia exposure. It's just so hard to tell form a photo.

ok, i think he's just fat, always the leader of the group so always getting to the food first.

many thanks

1 more question if i may??

at the moment i have gravel, is that ok for the catfish or should it be sand??

depends, some gravel is rough and some is quite smooth and rounded, they need the latter

yeah i thought so, mine is pointy but niot sharp or anything

Only cost me £10 so possibly look into having sand

i think ive cracked it and its cycled!!!!

can i have opinions on my last few readings?

certainly getting close, we say it's cycled when you can do two consecutive days without water changes and for the readings for ammonia and nitrite to stay at 0,0

Im thinking im pretty much there, the colour of the ammonia reading wasnt bright yellow, but it certainly was yellow(not green), and i also took out the media i put in from the stingray too and replaced with the polyester media and its gone better every single day, i think that rather than having bits floating around, because its now trapped in the filter its done its worked and converted better

but id say im pretty much cycled now, but not gonna do anything else for a while yet apart from change my gravel to sand for the corys

so a big thankyou to everyone that has helped! :good: :good: :good:

woooo glad to hear it.

make sure that the tank can hold 0,0 for ammonia and nitrite for two consequtive days without water changes, then we can declare it cycled :D

I think he is a she =) same shape as my albino females, although my peppered cory females are more elongated, but I'm pretty sure that's a female and that's why it looks fatter, because the females have a rounder belly.

Good going with your cycle, stick in there til the very end, don't rush the last few days in the hope the cycle has finished as you can put yourself back a while.

i was thinking that it might be female as it certainly is much bigger than my other 2 but once someone mentioned dropsy it got me worried.

hopefully they'll enjoy the sand much better too

Yep i definately think its now cycled!

also the clogging indicator is half way down on my new Fluval 2 plus filter, shud i leave it a bit longer before cleaning it out as im worried about setting myself back and loosing all the work ive just done

yup definately cycled, well done!

how does the flow rate from the filter feel?

Well to save having my air pump on during the day whilst was at work, i was using the venturi system on the fluval, but that doesnt even work anymore since theres not enough sucking action to draw any air into the water flow

the water flow has considerably dropped, but i dont want to do anything with it yet incase it sets me back

what do you think?

is all the media all in one or can you rinse part of it seperately?
