Hi Guys,

New here, just started with Tropical fish, haven't had them for years now and so exited about gettin a small tank, its a 30L Biorb and so far all is going well...
i have 2 x pearl Danios and 3 x tetras... i know people have mixed views on my tank, but i was just wondering what you think? i have uploaded some pics for you guys to see, hope my questions wont annoy you all??? :)

My water tests are ALL fine, the tank has been up and running for 3 wks now and i only added the fish in about 5 days ago and not lost any so far... I have been told that 2 of my tetras have been mating or just practicing anyway... how will i no if i have any eggs? where and what size will they be?

Also can anyone tell me some other fish i could think of to have in the tank?... i no i cant have to many as its a small tank but a couple more i dont think would hurt if there small ones!!!

Cheers guys any info or help would be amazing H_N_L_FISH :):):)

P.s - pics not attached as dont no how to lol sorry - again can anyone help with this?

Welcome to TFF,
Its great starting a new tank, very exciting! :)

Regarding breeding Tetras, they always eat there eggs. Unless you carefully plan it out, in a seperate tank, spawning mop etc. it will never be succesful.
What breed of tetras are they, ideally tetras should be a minimum of 6, so next time you go to the LFS, i would suggest getting some more.

I personally don't like Biorbs, but thats just my choice.

You could get a few cories, or a loach for a the substrate dwelling fish.

Im not to sure what tetras they are??? wanted to put pics up for advice but dont no how to attach pics...

My opinion on Biorbs is that they are overpriced, badly designed, cheaply made rubbish.
I can elaborate...but the question has been asked so many times that I'll just give you the fast answer.
Small area for gas exchange,
Poor shape for swimming
Badly designed filtration system
Limited ability to create 'safe' spaces for the fish

2 danios and 3 tetras in 30l will have create dangerous levels of ammonia by now if there isn't any zeo-lite in the filter and if you haven't been doing at least 50% changes a day.
What test kit are you using? What exactly are your water stats? Saying 'fine' doesn't give us enough info to help :)

Depends what type of tetra you have as to whether the eggs would be viable if they spawned...chances are they'll have been eaten by now anyways.

Don't add anymore fish until you've tested your water and completed a full fish-in cycle (if you want to carry on down the fish in cycle route).

Last thing I have to add is to go to the 'New to hobby' section --> then 'Beginners Resource centre' then read all topics on cycling.

Im using API testing kits... all the levels for PH are 6.5 maybe slightly higher not alot tho.
Nitrite levels are 0
Ammonia levels are 0

I didnt realise that biorbs were hated that much me and my partner are looking into gettin a normal tank in a few months but for now will do as we didnt have a clue.

what is zeo -lite?... might sound stupid but kinda new to me sorry :(

Took some serious googling but biorb filters do definitely contain Zeolite.
The zeolite is absorbing any ammonia that the fish give off.

I suggest you quickly read all the cycling topics, then once you've done that either return the fish and do a fishless cycle Or remove the zeolite and begin your fish in cycle.
Eitherways the zeolite needs removing, and if it were me I'd replace it (and the carbon which are the black chips), with either ceramic rings or filter sponge.

I have replaced the filter a few days ago, i replaced the carbon with the ceramic rings

Dont get how to upload the pics lol stupid me, have uploaded them on imageshack but dont no what to do now all this ulr thing lol

The zeolite should be a box of white chips next to what was the carbon (going by diagrams).
I really would recommend replacing those with the rings aswell as soon as you've decided which cycling route you're going to follow. Your tank can't begin to cycle until there is ammonia present in the water... be it from fish or from a bottle.

If you put your image url should look something like http://www.imageshack.com/xxx/xxx.jpg or similar.
Click the image button (between the green arrow and picture of an envelope) or place between tags.
The end image tag needs to be

I have done the water cyle for 2weks b4 i added the fish and all that was ok... i replaced the bits like u had said u would have done a about a week ago... i think all is ok in the tank, im new so i will/maybe be wrong but they all seem fine .

Needs to start with a

How exactly did you cycle the tank? And have you read the cycling topics?

Also does that mean you have removed the zeolite? Not just removed the carbon?

Edit: To insert pictures...hope you dont mind me doing it for you?

Let me simplify...

1) How did you cycle the tank. EXACTLY what did you do to cycle the tank...did you add ammonia? Did you add fish food? Did you add anything? Or did you just let the tank run for 2 weeks

2) You already said you removed the carbon. But there will be two boxes which had chips in. One had black chips (which was the carbon that you removed and replaced) and one will have had white chips (the zeolite, which it sounds like you haven't replaced). Did you empty the one with white chips in it aswell? Or are they still there? If they are still there then they will be absorbing the ammonia, it wont be because the tank is cycled.

And again PLEASE READ THE CYCLING TOPICS!

Brought the tank added the water and let the cyle begin took out the zeolite which is in with the carbon which i took out and replaced with the rings...i have read the cyling topics :( sorry if annoying you but its all new to me and getting to grips with it
