although not entirley new to fish keeping it has being some 15yrs or more since my last setup.

I have recently purchased  a 2nd hand Fluval Roma 125 complete with stand, filter, heater, a couple of ornaments along with a few plastic plants for £80.

After allowing the tank to cycle for a week or so introducing bacteria along the way i then added 3 tiger barbs and recentley added a further 2 green tigers and 2 rosy barbs...............all seems well with no loss of fish and they seem happy

anyway i have a few questions to ask but will search and post in the relevant section

:hi: to the forum.

How did you add the bacteria? Was it through mature filter media or a cycling product, (if so, what was its name)?

i put my filter media in a net in my friends tank for a few days prior to transfering to my filter, and topped up daily for a week or so with nutrafian cycle

The filter media in a net in your friend's tank is not going to be enough to kick start your cycle. It might contain some bacteria but not the best method IMO.
You will need actual media from your friend's filter to have the best benefits, in form of sponge media or ceramic/bio balls would be the best.
If your friend allows you to have some of their media, do not take any more than a third and replace with new media what you take out.

Nutrafin is not really very good for anything, you may have some limited benefit, if any.

Sounds like if you cannot get mature media, you'll be doing a fish in cycle really.

oops i do hope i dont harm or loose any would hate that, although they do seem quite lively and happy, im doing 15-25% water change each week cant remember test results but from what i can remember they wernt to bad althuigh ph was a little high 7.6-7.8   will do another test saturday and post up results
