Hi guys! There were a few fish forum sites, but I chose this one because it had a nice and easy atmosphere look.
Anyway, I just bought a new Betta and a 2.5 gallon tank with a heater. His(I think) name is Minx and he's a regular Betta, although I somewhat regret not researching first about the types of Betta before randomly purchasing Minx at Petco because he had the best color there. I visited a Betta store a few weeks ago I was simply amazed at the selections and types there were, though there were ones I want I find it wrong to toss my Betta away just for a prettier one.
So I built him a nice forestry area which was suggested by a pet store and a few online researching.
Please rate my Betta tank and give me feed back rather negative or positive if its too forestry or wrong type of plants, all are welcome.

Hi, and welcome to the forum! Minx is a male veil tail, and a lovely one at that :good: As far as his habitat, it's more densely planted than I would have chosen, but he certainly has places to rest!

He is beautiful and looks very healthy. To keep him in that condition I would recommend you invest in a filter, maybe a small corner box cartridge filter or a sponge filter or waterfall filter that hangs on the outside of your tank. I'd give him a little more room. I'd take out that huge pot plant(it is very nice though) and maybe that plastic green one at the back just in case he tears his fins on it and live plants needs lighting. So all in all you need light and filter. But the filter is more important you can always get your light next pay day. Oh and a word of warning...you won't stop at one betta

Minx is gorgeous  i would have brought him too

i'd take the bamboo and the green and white plant out as there not aquatic, as said be careful with the plastic green plant.

I definately agree with getting a filter, it will be much easier on you and Minx :)

Minx is lovely,- congratulations! As for his home I agree with what's already been said above. Silk plants are better than plastic for him if you don't want all real plants. I have Java fern and Amazon frogbit in my betta tanks. :D

the bamboo is just taking up too much room tbh. i suggest removing it and spreading the other plants around.
+1 on the filter. will make things much easier with not having to do waterchanges every few days once it cycles.
other than that looks great!
cheers

Thanks everyone for the welcome! I'm real glad folks are friendly in here, I am amazed by the replies that everyone is so mature because often times folks I know would compare this to rock collecting and laugh about it.
Okay back to the thread, most people online said that a filter would disrupt the stillness of the water which could annoy the Betta because he would be unable to make bubbles etc...

I only bought the bamboo because my research and petstore told me that bamboo helps with the water and goes very well with
Bettas because of non filtration.

I plan to take the plastic plants out, it's only there until I can cough up extra cash.
I've read that Betta's natural habitat are murky and very forestry due to the rice plants that is constantly growing on the rice paddies.

I know that most petstore (not all) will try to sell anything, so thats why I thought it would be a great idea to join a fish community so my questions can be answered honestly. Thanks!

simple solution for the bamboo-get another tank :)
it just looks so dominating in the current tank. takes up a lot of space where other soft plants could be planted. The other live plants you have (which are aquatic) do a lot more in the terms of water quality than the bamboo will do.
enjoy your time here! lots of friendly knowledgeable folks around :)
cheers

I think he needs a tad more room so I would take out a few of the plants. They love plants but because it's a smaller tank you don't want to overcrowd him. If you take out a few he can swim around a bit more. If you want it murky buy some indian almond leaves. They are great for Bettas condition and my better breeder swears by them. They do turn the water a little brown though. You can read up online about the benefits and they are available on ebay. I don't personally use them because I like my tank crystal clear but they are supposed to be good.

I would defo get a filter. And good for you for reading up on what's best for him.
