Hey Guys Need Help Now!

i just changed out 40 gallons. and preset the temperature of the new water with the existing water and my peocock literally just died and the johanni?!?!?

im also added prime to all the new water before putting it in the aqaurium.

im really worried about losing my severum. he my favorite and was 40 bucks and no where else around has them. im already down 15.

i guessing im learning the hard way of being impatient and not letting my filter cycle throughly.

also how long should water sit for after prime has been added to it, until its sage to put in the tank?

It works pretty much instantaneously. I use a bucket to refill my tanks, I put the Prime in first, then fill with water, so the circulation caused by the water going in mixes the Prime in properly. If you refill from a hose, put the Prime in first, and the same principle applies.

If it's any consolation, you're not the first, and you won't be the last. Have a read of the link in my signature area, it will help you with what to do and why you need to do it. And I have to say, this forum is one of the best places to be - the people on here helped me tons when I first started out.

By the look of your water parms, you are going into the last part of the cycle. You are showing ammonia and nitrites, but you also are showing nitrates. Keep plugging along, you will get there. Big water changes on a daily basis will help the fish you have left. Good luck

Sorry to hear about your losses :( don't doubt yourself, you're on the right track now :)

hey guys thanks so much for the help! id probably lost all my fish by now. anyways i changed out 40 gallons last night primed all the water and within an hour all of them seemed much happier. none of there fins are collapsed now and i havent seen them scrape at all in the last 3 days. so im guessing thats good. i ran some more tests today. the ammonia has definently came down, its far from the safe levels, however its still came down some so im pleased with that. on the otherside tho, the nitrites are still sky high, and the nitrates are still at a safe level.

one more thing last night my electric yellow lab was looking on its way out during the water change. and then about 2 hours later i couldnt find him anywhere so im assuming the bit the dust. then i pulled up all the coral and looked under everything, and i still couldnt find him anywhere. do you think where ive been feeding the fish so little lately the severum or sunfish might have just eaten him?

When levels are really high it can take several very large water changes to get them down to 0. Once you achieve this it's much easier to manage, probably with just daily water changes. You can actually do several large water changes in a day without any harm as long as you dechlorinate and temperature match the water. So keep doing those water changes until you get 0 ammonia and nitrite! :)

Yeah it's totally possible that it got eaten :/

hey guys so i had another question. how much am i exactly supossed to feed them. im almost certain i was way overfeeding. but ive heard varied things like feed them no more than they can eat in 3-5 minutes. however my fish act like pirahnas and literally its all gone within like seconds.

heres an example of how much ive been feeding them since the recent ammonia crisis. and this is only once a day. i also have some cichlid sinking pellets and some algea plate looking things.but have recently stopped feeding those

these are the large cichlid flakes btw

Here is my remaining fish
Green Severum
Jack Dempsey
Kenyi
Red Breast Sunfish
Red Tail Shark
Red Tail Botia
Jaguar Cat

Is this enough for them? also do you think the bottom feeders are getting enough from whats left over, because it doesnt seem like much is left over.
