ok so the other day my little girl izzy unfortunetly developed complications within a matter of hours. when i noticed her 1/2 of her face was swolen so i put her in my empty tank with meracin 2 and came back to check on her a little over an hour later and she had died. the next day my sister and i made our weekly rounds at our lfs and we found a beautiful steel blue VT male who had a bit of a greyish film on a small patch of his side so we thought about it for a while and decided that since we had another emty tank we could try to rescue him and if he survived then we would give him to our grandmother. when we got him home and set up i started him on the meracin also. yesterday and this morning he didnt seem any worse, but when i went to check on him just afew minuts ago he was sitting on the bottom nose up and did not want to move. im afraid that he is on his last bit of life, and would like to try to help him more if he can make it through the night, but im not so sure he will. is there anything i should do differentlt to help him or am i already doing everything i can for him?? also does anyone know what it could be that killed my girl, and what it is that is wrong with my boy for future reference so i know what i am dealing with a bit better?? thanks in advance.

Sorry you are not having much luck. Keep this thread at the top and someone who knows what they are doing will help. :good:

it could be the pet store your going to or you could also be maybe overdocing it with medication. i would post this in the fish emergency part of the forum for better results. :good:

thanks guys unfortunetly he passed on, but everyone else is doing well. right now im just tryin to disinfect his tank so it can be used again in afew weeks. what would be the best way to disinfect a silk plant??

Sounds like he had colmunaris, thats usually what grey patchy spots or fuzz signify. For future reference the best treatment for colmunaris is treating with both maracyn 1 and 2. I'm sorry you lost him :( I would wash everything with a bleach solution (1 part bleach 9 parts water) and then rinse it all throughly till you can't smell the bleach at all anymore. Then let everything air dry outside for 24-48 hours.

If you use bleach ( as in pure bleach ) you can use dechlorinator to be sure it's all been rendered harmless. If it has other additives you need to be more careful with the rinsing.

Columnaris is present everywhere by default, it's an opportunistic infection that can be very fast or quite slow in attacking your fish. Usually it only affects fish which are somehow below par either due to stress or another infection or injury. Still, since the poor fish can't say ... hey boss I'm not feeling too great it can be really hard to tell :(

A good wash / rinse with bleach solution then stick it in a bucket of water and add dechlorinator to be doubly sure ;)

Good luck with it. I lost a Betta last week, so I know how you're feeling.

thanks guys for all the help. the tank is getting double cleaned cause i dont want to take any chances.
