I think I know the answer to this already (if my gut feeling is right anyhoo), but I'd best ask you lot.

In theory, could Rainbow cichlids live with larger CA or SA cichlids? I'm contemplating going back to oscar keeping, and my gut instinct says no, but I really love my Rainbows and it'd be nice if it was a yes.

The tank is 6 x 2 x 2, and if we went ahead we'd be getting a baby/babies. The Rainbows are already about 3.5", if not more.

Thanks

Kathy

Personally i wouldn't have a problem keeping adult rainbowfish with an Oscar. Oscar's do not tend to be overly aggressive and even full grown would stuggle to catch a rainbowfish, never mind eat it. I have kept Oscar's with Bala sharks and Torpedo barbs and they have never shown the slightest bit of interest in them, certainly no aggression.

However i wouldn't keep them with the like of Green Terror's, Texas, Red devils or Jack Dempsey's. IME these fish are much more aggressive than Oscar's and less tolerant of tankmates, even Firemouths and Blue Acara would involve a certain amount of risk.

Hope that helps. :good:
