Ok, so i have been puzzled to why this is happening! Can anyone help solve my puzzle?!
I recently planted my tank and started using TPN+ fertiliser! I have since been getting high levels of ammonia showing however the fish seem fine!
I have had a reading of about 2ppm ammonia for 2 weeks, when i first spotted ammonia was high i did a full water change but the ammonia crept back within 24 hours! I though it may be because the filter needed a clean but i have done that and the ammonia is still at 2ppm. Here are the readings as i type this:
Ammonia: 2ppm
pH: 6
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate 20ppm
Why might this be happening??!?1 Does the fert transfer nitrates into the tank using Ammonium Nitrate (NH4+)?
Is something else being read as ammonia?
I have tested the test kit and its fine, i tested tap water which is 0ppm then added enough ammonia to make the water 2ppm and the test kit did read 2ppm.
