Please hear me out on this one, its not as crazy as it might sound.

I just INHERITED, not bought foolishly, a group of 6 barely 1" Arulius Barbs [Puntius arulius] (think zebra danio size). They are great and active but are in a tank with tinfoil barbs that will quickly turn them into a meal. Of course I am moving these fish into a better tank asap, but in the meantime, can I put them in the filter box (NOTE: I have an old style filter, external open filter box with a pump at one end, no moving parts and the fish cannot be directly sucked into anything, the flow shouldnt be anything they cant deal with, at least not for a few days till i can relocate them to a proper tank, the only thing the fish can get in contact with directly is the floss media)

Right now they are hanging in a net in the corner of the tank, my reason for wishing to relocate them to the filter box from the net is that they can jump out, one already did into the main tank and was being pursued by fish before i saved it.

any advice?

Thanks

No I wouldnt as it can make them ill.
I had a fish that got into the filter and he came down with columnaris.
You can buy breeder boxes that you hang in the tank, some of them are a decent size.

Ok thanks

I know conventional wisdom would say no, and I was just making sure, cuz if so that would have been the easiest way out. Ive got the net fairly secure so I think it should keep them contained for a few days till I can decide exactly where they are going to go. It was just kinda one of those "Oh ****" moments when you see the tiny fish swimming for its life in a tank and a tinfoil 20x its size about 2 inches away hahaha.

You can seperate your tank into two halfs by buying or making a tank divider.
