Hey,
My stupid LFS has sold me a dodgy filter- which is attatched to my tank- and its not working !!!!!!!! its not even a year old :grr: Luckily i was doing a 50% water change for the .25 ammonia- not even that anymore which is good :) still keeping a close eye on it though.
I have pulled it apart as much i can then put together and still nothing o_O
its not the fist time i have had trouble with it, it sometimes stops working but if i take the powerpoint out and put back in enough it works again...not this time o_O
The only other filter i have is for a 55L tank. i squeezed in as much media from my filter as i can but all that fit was the smaller sponge from the filter and about 5 ceramic tubes :(

With the left over media, can i just have a bucket of tank water to put them in or does it actually have to be the tank?
With the tank, i have a air stone - in the shape of a skull :p- that i can turn up, also the 55L filter- which won't do much-
I was wondering if i can do anything else to help my fish survive the night :(

thanks
Emma

EDIT- NOW IT DECIDES TO BLEEPING WORK !!!!!!!!!!!!!! i am so P*ssed off right now, what should i do. will i keep the other filter running just in case this one stuffs up during the night?

what filter is it?

ive had several fluval internal filters that just stop working after a powercut or after cleaning etc. after a few attempts they use to work again but it was a bit of a mystery why....

was there any trapped air inside the filter?

The filter is attached to the tank lid. The tank is a Aqua One AR-620. I don't think there was any trapped air inside :/

I'd probably keep the second filter running just in case. Then work your way toward getting a new one! Maybe you should use this experience as a good excuse to upgrade!

haha if only :( i would have to save for it. I am poor and my parents wouldn't lend me money for fish in a million years :(

K i will leave it in, when i go to my LFS tomorrow i am going to get its own sponge and keep it in there for emergancies :) As well as rage at them for selling me a peice of Cr*p - excuse the language ;)

thank you all :good:

As someone said above, Fluvals have this problem sometimes, my U2 does it occasionally when you turn it off, it wont come back on. I just leave it unplugged for 5 mins, and when i plug it back it, it starts itself off again.

I would be more worried, but it ONLY does it when its been switched off, it nenver does it on its own!

i hate these in built filters they never seem to work very well at best, i would look out for a cheap external to be honest and run both filters so you have a back up, di

dun no, depends on weight i guess, ask if they would, how much it weighs and go on the royal mail web site, or you buy it and i will post if for you, better find out wether its worth it first though, di

the AR-620 trickle filter is a very good filter. if the powerhead has stopped working or doesnt work as it should then take it back and get a replacement especially if its less than a year old, demand one.

this tank is a great little tank but without modification to the hood an external wont fit on it. i had one of these tanks and the trickle filter worked great.

just a thought. was the powerhead completely submerged in the water? if not it will not be as efficient and may be running dry causing it to burn out..... they need to be totally underwater for best results, this means having the tank full.
