I have a 12gal 2ft tank and have 4 guppies in it. Recently my water has been going cloudy 24hours after a clean out and everything has had clear algea growing on it. I think my fish are all going to die! They cost me £6 all together. I don't want my fish to die but if it can't be helped then i will probably just pack up all my tanks and sell them. I have never had anything like this so i don't know what to do! I'm quite literaly begging for help -gets down on knees and begs-. :-( :-( :-(

i have and PH is 6.4, nirtrite and amonia at 0ppm and nitrate at 20 as they are always like this but i tested anyway as its better to be safe than sorry. I don't want to sell my fish things as it will upset me later and my mum says she will try to help me in anyway she can but i don't see the point in trying anymore.

Do a 80% waterchange, t5hen do another 80% waterchange the day after..

Have u added anything new to the tank? like rocks, or maybe sand? new gravel?

I've got a 170L tank thats fully stocked and fully planted, and I get that cloudy water after doing a water change.
Last year when I seen the cloudy water, I kept ding water changes to try get rid of it, until I seen someone on this site say that its a bacterial bloom that occurs when new water is added. It doesn't happened every time I change water, but happens often enough and I don't think its effected my fish either, well none have died from it like

dont know if this helps but a friend of mine used to get cloudy water after a change
I found out it was because she was adding warm water to the bucket and it was reacting with the dechlor just a thought
good luck scot :)

if it only happens when you clean something must be going wrong somewhere
scot :)

I've noticed recently that my water from the tap is very cloudy and has a strong smell of chloride  ,i put extra prime in the water to be on the safe side, but when i fill the tank,it stays murky for an hour or so until the filters have done their bizz,so annoying though.

What dechlorinator do you use? is it in date?

Just thinking did you test the water before your 80% w/c or after?

I don't mean to sound rude or anything but, WHERE? I always do the same thing when i clean it out and this only started about a week ago. I'm sorry but i'm only 13 but we've had fish since i was little and this never happened and i have family matters going on so i am soooo stressed i feel like i'm going to explode! I've been getting headaches all the time so this just adds to the stress.

I wasnt been rude either but something somewhere is wrong or you wouldnt be posting thats all i was saying and if it only happens when you clean common sense would say it has something to do with that perhaps

Hmmm i was just reading your other topic,it seems this started when you gave your tank a clean and removed non aquatic plants...wondering if the gravel has been disturbed too much and caused a bacteria bloom...

Could it be? But i clean my gravel till the water stays clear when i put it back in the tank? It's just for some reason now, 24hours after i clean it out i get cloudy water. The plants were not rooted just had a blunt stem and were just put into the gravel as they had no roots when i got them. Can't really read the name of the de-chlore anymore as most of the papery stuff that tells you the name has come of and it is in date.
