Help!

just tested my water which is usually fine but ammonia was at around 1 and nitrite around.25 am in the process of doing a massive water change as wespeak. tested water direct from filter outlet and it comes back as 0 ammonia and .25 nitrite. what the hell is going on??

Youve added quite a few fish over the last week or so, so its probably just a mini cycle, keep on top of the water changes and testing and it should settle within a couple of days Mark.

any fish that has been added minxy has been a replacement for a fish that has been swapped. plus its a fully matured filter been running for 2 years a large cannister filter eheim pro2 2028 .

Hmmm, thats true, didnt take that into account. Anything rotting in the tank, extra food, plants etc? that could cause a spike?

no not really a few pieces of uneaten prawn from last night but i removed them this morning. did my weekly gravel vacaand water change monday

well changed about half the water ( all i had dechlor for ) tested again and touch wood at the moment stats are as they should be god

Hopefully that will keep it down, test it again tomorrow and see how it is, probably just a blip.

im hoping it was the uneaten prawns that were in overnight ( put some in various places just before lights out to try and get the new plec feeding) gonna leave out the feeding today test again later and then again in the morning. its obviously only happened today as up until then all fish were happy/full of colour and like i said had only done the weekly maininence 2 days ago. i tested cos i noticed my kribs and firemouths were very pale virtually all the coloujr drained. almost instantly after a water change the colours have come back. fingers crossed seems like im on top of it was sheer panick for a while tho
