Okay, i was doing a 60 percent water change on my 30g fish tank today, and as i was filling tha tnak back up, i noticed something. My stunning Dalmation angelfish has little red threads comming out od his/her anus. They look like time sea anemone arms. Or, if you've even been near a nylon rope, red nylon fibers. Sometimes, they are longer and sometimes they are shorter when i see them. As of right now, my angel seems vibrant and healthy. What is this? I coudl provide a picture, but it would be impossible to see the little things on him/her.

Tank size: 30
Stocking:
2 Angelfish
4 Mollies
2 Guppies
2 Swordtails

Tank Parameters:
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 7
ph 8.4- 8.6
Kh and Gh: N/A

Symptoms:
Red little Nylon fiber like things sticking out of the Angelfishes Anus.

New additions:
Recently added 3 guppies from another tank.

Chemical Exsposure:
Non that im aware of.

So please, HELP ME! I was planning on try to breed them angels, and i cant if one is sick!

NOTE: I had some Kribensis Cichlids at one time with this same symptoms, and they both stopped eating, got real shy, and died.

Sounds like parasites to me. I can't identify them but a lot of fish carry them including livebearers. They are easy to treat, the three meds to use are trichlorforon, pyrantel and praziquantel. I bought enough prazi to treat 120 litres, which is around or maybe slightly over 30g, for about $6 AU. They stink a bit but they don't even kill your filters. The meds are specific to different parasites so I'd wait until somebody gives you an ID on them before choosing which med to use. I used prazi (for gill and body flukes) on intestinal worms and killed them, but I would have used pyrantel if I could get it. Not sure what trichlorforon is good for, I've seen it sold as a wormer but never used it.

Parasites are kinda like fish TB, fish are made more susceptible to them because they're mass produced and abused by the pet trade. If you treat them early though they don't do much damage. Is the angel skinny? Stopping eating, paranoia and eventual death could be parasites as well.

PM Sent.....Sounds like 'Camallanus' Internal parasite worms; red, hair-like 2-4mm thread's from Fish anus?

>>Don't panic, as if you get the treatment in-the problem should be sorted soon.

(pity you don't live in North UK, as I have the stuff to do the trick.)

This is exactly what it looks like. I belive its Callamanus worms. I think that Praziquantel it avalible around here ( i think its called " PraziPro). But, the only store i know that carries it, is closed until November. Im pretty sure my angel wont last that long. Im tight on money, so whatever i buy, i want it to work the first time and not ahve to get something else. Would something such as copper safe work? Here is a link about it, if you dont know what it is:

That is about the only Parasite Med i can think of. I will have to call for places a little farther out, but getting the med will be hard because of gas prices.

Flubenol 15 is another good one, although dont know if its available in the US.

Sounds like a great med. But is it avalible in the U.S.? It dosent say on that link. But, i know that a lfs somewhere by me has Prazi Pro. Would this med work? nI know it has Praziquantel in it. But is that going to cure him/her?

I think you can get that med in canada but not sure if you can get it in the united states.
The prazi pro dosn't look like it treat camallanous worms, you need levaimsole which is available in the states.

Well, i read on a article that PraziQuantel will treat it. Well, PraziPro is PraziQuantel. But, you being the expert would know, i must have miss read. Will Copper Safe help? Being in the U.S., you would think that we would ahve the good fish med's, but this isnt the case.

Since my fish are still eating, can i try the Jungle Labs Parasite Medicated food? It has metronidazole, praziquantel and levamisole in it. Do you think it'll work?

i would do the jungle paracite food as well as the jungle fizzy tabs you drop in, they are formulated to be ok used togather, fight it hard now with a aggresive treatment, cause they can grow immune to it if a more delicate approach is used, also just cause the other fish look ok dosent mean they arent infected in another life cycle stage. so treat the whole tank and any tank you share equpiment with it.

I bought the Food, adn fed tonight ( the angels and other fish have a hard time eating it, as its little pellets) and i bought some CopperSafe to kill any eggs currently in the tank. Fingers Crossed XD

Hope it does the business>>> a classic symptom of 'Cama...' is when they don't eat, especially in Angels. They may also look slightly fatter as its the worms inside.....Make sure to vacuum all dead worms/eggs up and do large water-change after treating.

Well, last time i had a fish with Callamanus Worms, she and he both stopped eating, after a few days of my seeing the worm. I will vacum up if i see anytihng. But im hopeing that the Copper Will do the job of killing off the parasite's eggs, and the parasite once its fully in the water. I hope this works, as the little bits are too big for the angel to eat with out spitting it back out. The angel justs spits it back out repeaditley. I really hope this works.
