Hi, I have a 90l tropical tank which I have cycled and had running for a month since cycling. I currently have 2 zebra danio's, a leopard danio, a pearl danio, a Bn pleco and 5 neon tetra. My problem is, I was advised that all the danio would school together, but in the 3 weeks I have had them, the zebra and leopard swim together, but the pearl has spent the whole time hiding in a cave, and only comes out when the lights are off, and only then swims just above the gravel. I have done some research and some people suggest that pearls should be kept in groups of at least 5 in addition to the other danios. Is this true? I would like some advice stocking the tank, as I plan to get a total of 6/7 danio, and possibly another 1/2 tetra as I have read that they prefer larger numbers. if I get another 2 pearl danio is it likely that they would swim together and maybe the other one would not be hiding all the time. I am not sure what to do, as I really don't want a tank with just danio's, I would love some rasbora's, and maybe some cory's or a gourami, but i am worried about the stocking level now. What would you suggest adding, to make a nice interesting community tank, without having stressed out fish?

I also have lots of live plants, as I read that rasbora's like heavily planted tanks.

Thank you.

Yeah, all of the fish you have stocked except your bristlenose should be kept in fairly large groups of their own. Ideally, you would want 6 or more zebra danios in total as well as 6 or more leopard danios and the same with pearl danios. Obviously, this isn't really possible in a 90L as you'd end up overstocked despite them only being small fish.

Personally, I'd try and re-home the leopard and pearl danios and add some zebra danios and 2/3 neons. That could prove difficult though so as long as you make sure you don't end up overstocked, the best bet may be to just add a few of each for a bit of company. They're still not going to be fully comfortable and as active as they would be but it improves the situation.

Alternatively, you could always upgrade and get a bigger tank ;)
