Theres no reason to give up if you do research, and can safely say you can afford to, and want to give your time to such a project. I was not trying to dissuade you BTW, but rather point out what is necessary for their care. Just after I posted in this thread (already surfing RC) I had a look in their Breeding Forum and came across someone who breeds Bangai Cardinals, who I know from another forum. He mentions they can take up to 4 months to reach a size that he is comfortable selling, and some that reach 6 months, and thats a single batch. 
You know they are comfortable and happy though, you must be doing something right if they are mouth brooding.
