So I noticed some of my fish have small white spots on the tails and fins like this
http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/431154-help-i-think-its-ich/
The pics aren't great but you can see the spots like on mine, I will try get pics and if I'm honest I have done a water change Ina fortnight as I have been too ill and sadly my nan passed. I noticed a Platy scratch along gravel and I initially thought it was white spot so I was about to treat but want to be sure. I don't have any parameters as I need to replace my test kit, I know I know I need one! I'm planning on doing a 30% water change and clean everything in tank water with a. Sponge like decor. Any advice please

Sorry the pics are abit blurry to make much out.

If the fish have tiny white spots the size of a grain of salt it does sound like whitespot.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing, excess mucas on body, or fins?

You will need a whitespot treatment.
Water change, and gravel vac.
Remove black carbon from filter if you use it.
Raise temp to 30.
Add medication.
Increase aeration due to the medication reducing 02 in the water.
Make sure you can use the full dose of medication with the fish you keep.

It's only on tails though? Am in process of big water change and clean before treatment

Are any fish showing signs of flicking and rubbing?
Darting around the tank. Erratic swimming?.
Excess mucas on body or fims?
Laboured breathing, gasping at surface of tank.?
Any tiny bubbles on fish body, or fins?

Look like bubbles on tail and rubbing a bit so is that ich thanks agin bud

I'm dosing my tank for ich and I have couple month old fry so should I lower dosage or dose as normal with guppy fry?

Tiny bubbles on fish can be an indication that a fish is breaking out in whitespot too..

Here a pic of whitespot.
A link to whitespot.

Just saying the spots on my fish were no where near as severe as the pic you shown, they simply had a couple on their tails and fins but I looked like the single spots and the rubbing on gravel was also happening, dosed today and they seem to have stopped a little already, need to wait couple of days before dosing again as bottle says but I'm just happy I got it before it got worse :) thank you so much for your help WILDER!!!

Just keep an eye on the fry as you are only meant to half dose.
If any problems with the fry like heavy breathing, darting around. Dilute the medication down
with a water change.

If anymore problems don't hesitate to post back on your thread.

Good Luck.

Hey again wilder, i have a male and female bn plec in my tank and have bred recently and kept two babies for myself, i found one had passed this morning is this because they dont have scales because if im honest i dont know if plecs have scales?

Again, help! I have a small 10g tank for fry and I just saw one swimming and rubbing against a rock, should I dose these guys or leave them as I can't physically see any spots on them yet and the tank was set up about two weeks ago with my main tank water where the outbreak has since occurred, what should I do? I can dilute it now but they seem happy but one I'll post vid link now

Sorry didn't come onto the forum yesterday.

You should only half dose with plecs. So I think I would dilute the medication down with a water change.

Can you post water staats for the 10 gallon.
Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
Is there any tiny bubbles on fins, or body?
Fish can also flick and rub when water quality is bad.

Sorry for your loss.
R.I.P.

No signs of it on fish that's why I was confused, must just need a clean as the pump was taken out after sucking up four fry and is soon to be replaced with a air pump, please help I have loads more questions popping into mind.
- do I turn my filter off when treating for ich ?
The blueness leaves my tank after a couple of hours of adding treatment is that normal?
Will the fry born into tank die instantly as I have a female about to blow?
I have a balloon Molly and a Platy sitting on the bottoms of the tank until I feed and they look I'll but no signs of anything appearance wise, any ideas?
I treated on Saturday and now is Monday, added treatment for today but I can't actually see any difference on my fish still white spots present? Is this normal?
Is there any treatments I should buy to calm and de stress the fish?
I'm soooooooo worried I mean I'm 15 and the tank feels like such a failure! I'm stressing I'm worried they will all die.
The tank is very clean after the massive clean out on Saturday and I still see scratching so it must be ich. I don't have a API kit after last one ran out been meaning to get another and will do ASAP, just incase what should I do if ammonia or nitrite have spiked? I'm seriously worried about fish. And worst of all, this all started after I went to pets at home I hate them I hate them.... The ill looking Molly has slightly inflamed and red gills so think this is ammonia and the Platy has a ever so slightly nipped tail which is ALL I can physically see

Best to add netting to the pump with a rubber band to stop the fry getting sucked in the outlet pipe.
Leave filter running or your bacteria colony will die off..
Which med are you using?
The blue tinge of water can start to fade but usually it only goes away
with water changes.
If fry are due to be born I would dilute the medication down with a water change.

It can take 2 rounds of whitespot medication to get rid of whitespot.
Have you raised the temp in the tank?
Preform water changes  if the gills are red.
GET your water tested by lfs.
Ask them to write the readings down for you.
When you preform water changes just add the correct amount of medication back to
water removed. Only half dose. But it will take longer to clear the whitespot.

Has the fish tailed been nipped as whitespot can also cause finrot.

It has been picked on often and I've noticed it's fins are quite severely nipped, it may be fin rot but whatever it is the fish looks in pain and it just sitting on floor of tank sometimes falling to side and I'm thinking euthanise of not?
Will get water tested hopefully for wednesday
