Help With Fish-In Cycle

I've been doing my cycle for over 5 weeks now.
I've been doing water changes as and when I need to.
I've left it for 3 days now as I've been a bit busy.
I don't have a nitrate tester yet.
Lately my ammonia has been 0 - .25 mg/l.
Yesterday my ammonia was 1.5 mg/l and nitrite <0.3 mg/l. I hadn't done any water changes or added anything to the water (chemicals to help etc.)
This morning ammonia was 0 mg/l and nitrite <0.3 mg/l.
Does this sound like nitrates are present?
Or am I cycled?

Just do 50% water changes every 2 days for the next week and you should be done by then.

Which test kits are you using?

Your tank is not cycled untill ammonia and nitrite readings are 0 and have been consistantly 0 for several days running without water changes.

I'm using the tetra tests, but I don't have a nitrate test.

Do you think I should not change the water for a few days and see how it goes?
I'm buying the nitrate test as soon as I get paid.

Nitrate test kits are a waste of time, save your money.

Do a water change now, wait two days, test if you still have a few traces then do another, you should be fine after that.
