Hi all.
Since breeding Thai he has been suffering from fin rot, :( im guessing this has been caused by the stress as his water is always clean???
he was attempted to breed with 1 female, with no luck he was moved back to his tank then a week later he bred with another female. He was then moved back to his tank after looking after the fry. (that would be stressful to me )I thought his tail looked a big raggy at this point.
A week later he was then moved to his new divided tank with 2 other males (he is on the end so only sees one male). He got daily water changes for a week then last week i bought some Melafix so he has had 1 weeks treatment with that. He seems no better, maybe even worse.
Will it be best to remove him to treat him with perfectly clean water for a while? I dont want to stress him more.?
The other 2 males are fine.
Thanks

I would remove and treat with clean water for a week or two and see if that helps. He is likely just stressed a bit from all the goings on hes had. give him a chance to rest by himself with lots of bloodworms for treats. Keep him away from the other fish for a while-like a vacation lol Hes worked his (literal) tail off caring for the eggs (let alone spawning). He deserves a break :)
best of luck
cheers

Ok thanks :)
He was in his own tank for a week and a half but then moved again to the new divided tank.
His old tank is still up and running so ill put him back in there tonight.
Poor little fella, i feel like a bad mam :(

Shall I just keep up daily water changes and not use any treatment?

all that moving around is probably adding to the stress. I wouldnt use meds unless absolutely necessary-they can be hard on the fish. Give him his own space for a while. if a week and a half wasnt long enough to see some re-growth, try longer this time. Only start meds if you notice very rapid deterioration of his fins. Then its time to medicate.
honestly, clean water and stress free generally sorts fin issues out by itself (in approx 80% of cases). Hes been thru a lot. He needs some chill time (like a vacation).
all the best
cheers

I'm sorry to hear this Vicky and hope that Thai picks up again soon. Fingers crossed for you both here xx

Yea, add garlic juice to their food; its meant to help with their immune system :).
so you crush a clove of garlic then add the juice to your pellets or blood worms? This is fascinating :)

Yup :good:. Try it; mine love blood worms but they LOVE the garlic ones :).

If mine ever seem a bit down I always give garlic and blood worms to help :)

Well don't get your face up to close to your betta I hate garlic breath....   just kidding.
