Hi,

Can anyone tell me what fish can I keep in a 25 gal tank (4 ft, apologies if calculation is wrong!!) with either a figure 8 puffer or a spotted puffer. I haven't set up the tank yet but would really love to house a puffer but also like goby's as well but not sure if they would tolerate each other  I have never kept a brackish tank before so it is all new to me but I am very keen to set one up. Any help would be very appreciated  Also could I keep more than one puffer in this size tank? Any advice on settting this tank up would be welcome too as I don't want to mess it up

A 4ft tank would usually be at least 55 gallons, can you post all the dimensions so we can work out the volume for you?

The trouble with puffer fish is that they are notorious fin nippers so any tankmates either have to be aggressive or fast, i would not recomend any tankmates for green spotted puffers, they will eventually try to eat any fish you place them with piece by piece :grr:

Depending on the actual size of the tank you could try Archer fish (see post in oddballs institute for more info) and bumble bee gobies make good tankmates for small puffers like figure 8's. Good luck with the tank, brackish tanks are a little more work but can be very rewarding, if you have any more questions dont hesitate to ask.

Thanks for the info CFC it was really helpful  I have just taken a look at the oddballs section which was quite informative. At the moment I have a 2ft tank (61cm x 30cm x 30cm) and I haven't actually bought the 4ft tank yet but am going to speak to someone this week who is selling this tank, so I don't know the exact dimensions yet or if its in a good condition. She is selling it complete with filter and heater etc. so its worth a look, but whatever happens I would like to buy a 3ft tank at least. If I do decide to buy it I will let you know the dimensions as I am sure I will have more questions for you :D

Thanks again CFC I will be in touch soon.
