Ok, well as some of you may remember, I set up a 4ft (75gal) a few months back, and all is going well. Currently have several bristlenose, cories and whiptails keeping it clean, a nice Blue Acara and a juvenile Green Severum and Jack Dempsey.

Now initially, the JD was not going to be included, and a nicer (temperament wise) Chocolate Cichlid was in line, unfortunately I had difficulty finding one :(

Anyhow, I did also have 10 emerald eye rasboras, 6 lemon tetras and 6 ember tetras... now there's about 3 in total... I KNOW it is not poor water quality etc. so I am jumping to the conclusion of a hungry BA, the other two are far too small to eat even an ember tetra.

So question time; what nice small, shoaling fish can I add who will not be eaten, and act as dither fish of sorts. Or, would I be better off adding another larger fish like a Firemouth and just having the 4 big guys without any dither?

I would personally stick to the 3 cichlids you already have, and search for larger dithers (though even these may be beaten). I would look towards some type of rainbow.

Yeah, if I say JD will be 12" and quite active, and the Sev and BA will be 8-10" and 6" respectively it should be quite 'full'.

I really did want some smaller shoals initially, but I guess I really can't be picky :p

How would say, Congo Tetras fare? Or possibly even some Hatchets?

Congo tetras may work out well, but I would avoid hatchets I would think them to be too delicate for cichlids (and forever be jumping out of water to escape I would have thought :p).

That is true, and hatchets are too expensive to lose!

I may try out congos, I've always liked them, unless some other good suggestions are brought up. Thanks shroob! :good:

I have Rainbows with 2 Sevs in a 75. The Rainbows got bigger than I expected, Marci's and Irian. Not sure if others stay smaller, but if not you would be too over stocked with a shoal of them. You can try the Congos, but the JD "possibly" would get big enough to eat them.

I was curious so I looked up the Rainbows. There are Dwarf Neon Rainbows which are about 2" and are quite stunning ! :good:

Yeah they look ok (not my cup of tea personally), but I would fear a 2" fish being eaten with the tankmates it would have.
