OK, well, for starters, I'm a college kid. A college kid in Louisiana.
We have no control over the temperature in the dorms, unfortunately. I kept forgetting my heater, so for the past month or so, my fish have been dealing with temperatures slightly less than ideal. Not freezing, but not the best for my guppies.
I have a 20 gallon tank with 7 guppies (6 of them are fry) and 3 neon tetras (transfered from another tank due to a leak and a huge mess... they were left over from that disaster and had no place to go)
The problem is, they turned the heat on for the winter, right. Well, it's no longer winter. It's louisiana, which means it's 70 degrees outside....and therefore HOT inside. I have a thermometer on my fishtank, but it only goes up to 84 degrees. It's way on up there, right at 84, I'm worried it might actually be hotter than that. It's so hot I've already started to dehydrate! Well, my fish are all swimming a little funny. Just like every once in a while getting a little sideays, and they are spending a lot of time going up and down the corner of the tank.
I have no idea what to do for them to make it a little cooler in there. I mean, 'm going to do a water change today or tomorrow, depending on when i have time, but I dont know how much that will help. I've left my light off for the past 2 weeks, but it doesnt seem to be helping much.
How hot is too hot? What can i do to help them?
