Help Please

She's awfully cute.
Make sure you don't move her back and forth between tanks as an algea controller for them. This could stress her out which could in turn make her more open to sicknesses. Congrats!

*And I may have just misread what you meant about keeping her in a fry tank. So sorry for any confusion.

im hopefully off to get them algae pellet things today, if my mum will take me.
No i will leave her in the tank she is in. i was just wondering if one could go in my other tank thats most likely to have fry in soon. but its like the brown algea and i said if water changes are kept up then it should dissapear by itself, that right?

Its a bristlenose grow up to 12-15 inches and very hard to breed, yours is a male.
Incorrect.
The common bristlenose (which is what it certainly seem to be) matures at 5" max. They breed extremely easily and you cannot sex positively with those pictures at that size.

i'm sorry, but that picture you posted was not the same as those pictures the owner sent. and I SHOULD KNOW I HAVE ONE!! :p :p :p :p

and I SHOULD KNOW I HAVE ONE!! :p :p :p :p
No need to shout. We can read perfectly well ;)

I obviously have a different opinion to you - and seemingly so do many others on this thread.

Could you please post a full clear picture of your fish to substantiate this ?

Well, mine always stays in a peice of wood that he hardly ever comes out, you have to stay up very late to see him.

zuchini is even better but they go to waste so easily for just one BN,
IMHO a BN even adult would be fine with young fry just as long as they are free swimming and not still with yolk sac. most catfish/plecos love fish eggs/yolkfry to gobble up.
I've lost many nests from a maurading BN but free swimmers will be fine.

hey there,
i have one of these in my tank. i was informed from the fish shop i got it from, that it is called a long fin plec!!! i have a post in the catfish and plec section with a pic of its tail (which is almost the length of its entire body)

ps mine has a bit of cucumber every few weeks and eats double its own body size in one/two days he/she loves it!!!!!!!!!!!!

If yours is a bristlenose, they max out at about 5 inches for the males. They do not begin to grow bristles until they get to be 2 inches or more. So, you will not know yet whether it is male or female. They need to have a piece of driftwood. This is extremely important for their digestive system. And if he doesn't eat the algae wafers you bring home, try different brands. Mine are very picky and will only eat OSI spirulina wafers. If yours is not a bristlenose, it will most likely not be a dwarf species and will need to be rehomed because it will outgrow your tank quickly. I would contact the person you got it from and ask them what kind it is.
Take care,
Mary.

I did contact the owner to find out and all she said was 'its some kind of sucking fish' they had it for about 2 months and it was only in a tank for their children, they didn't know anything about fish.

Well oday i went and bought some King British algae wafers, and i think as we speak its eating away.(also bout a veggie clip)
there about cm big, so i cut it in half to see how it goes.

i will try get a better picture as soon as possible but as its eating at the moment i dont want to disturb it as it often swims away when i go for a peek .
and at the moment i am looking for a piece of driftwood that will fit in my tank, am going to a bigger garden centre with an aquatics section that i think does them. hard to find any by me.

The fry will be guppy fry so i dont have to worry about one eating eggs.

Again i will try take a better picture asap.

bristle nose/bushy nose plecos DO NOT grow to 12-15 inches and they ARE very easily bred, my guess is clowns was given the wrong name of her pleco and it's a simple comon pleco which DO get that big and ARE hard to breed in captivity..

ps they dont have to have bog wood, since they do have a long gut track they should be fed mostly a veggie diet and very small amounts of protiens. there are some loricads/cats that do need wood for their diets but it's a comon belief among the experts & breeders that they (BN's) dont have to have it.
