It's ok. Done it now. I didnt realise I had to fill up the canister of water. Stupid me.

Added double dose of stresszyme to the water. And in a day or 2 will add a filter pad from my existing tank. With that should I put it in my tank or go the extra hassle and put it in my filter?

oh i get it, you have to prime the pump first. Oh well!

Ok thank you. Well we have had a major issue with the external filter, that 60 ltrs of water is on the floor dripping to the floor below. So now going to have the filter from my old tank in this new one as I dont trust this filter any more!

I will let the water get to temperature and cloudiness go and will move them over.

Thanks again for all the great advice :)

I will get pics on here as soon as I get the fish moved over as I'm sure you would like to see it.

aah, part failiure is stupid! My pond pump started pumping all the water out of the pond after the hose came off! Luckily i caught it in time!

WAAAAIIIITTTTT. LIGGGHHHTTTBULLLLBBBBBBBBBBBBB!!!!!

Check all of the seals (inside and out) check all clips and locks and tighten everything up.

Hope it Works! :good:

No that's ok, I don't trust it anymore so I'm just going to stick with my internal. Aq advisor says that it is enough filtration for my tank

I have now transfered my fish into the bigger tank, unfortunatley this site won't let me upload it as it is too big apparently. I can only upload 100Kb but its 440Kb.

Im not sure how else i can upload it, any suggestions?

Join a site like Photobucket or ImageShack (they're free and very useful), upload it there and then you can either re-size it or post a link to it :)

Ok cool cheers. I will get them put up tomorrow. I am buying a couple more things for it tomorrow, like drift wood for the pleco. As just found out it needs it.

Hi there, how is your tank doing? Iv just started a fish in cycle, tank has been up and running for 9 days and water was perfect before adding fish today, levels just got high. Ammonia 0.25 Nitrite between .5 and 1. Just did a water change and levels are now down to Ammonia 0 and Nitrites between 0 and .25, closer to 0 though, it seems such a fine balance between trying to cylcle the tank and making sure the fish are healthy. Especialy when LFS said not to change the water for the first 2 weeks. Hope your tank is doing well :)

Yeh my LFS told me to do the same, so I didn't really check it until I took the water to the shop just on the off chance. I did panic. Even then they man told me to do 10-15% water changes daily.

Fish are ok now after loosing a couple of mollies. Just going to do another water check now, make sure everything is still ok, I don't fancy doing more water moving. Quite tired from setting up my second tank. If I have to I will though. Good to hear your tank is doing well. Just out of curiosity what size tank have you got and which fish?

Sorry its ataken a while to reply, its a 48L, got 3 Tricolour platy's and 3 bright yellow mollies, they have names already lol. well the platy's do, the mollies look so alike! Tank seems to be doing its thing right, had slightly high ammonia and nitrites again (I check 2 times a day) and did a water change, today they are all 0 appart from the nitrAtes that are at 10, only issue I have is there are 2 male platy's and only one female who looks pregnant, they keep chasing her, if its not one its the other, will have to get another couple of females the second my water is stable to stop them stressing her out! Bonus I didnt knwo when buyign them is that they are algae eaters and are cleaning my tank! :)

Sorry to hear you lost some fish! never a good thing, how is your tank doing now? It has to do its thang eventualy lol

Yeh. Wait a week once the tank has settled and reading are coming up double zero, then you could add a coupl of female mollies, however do it fairly quickly otherwise the female will get very stressed and die eventually. It doesn't matter if she's pregnant, the males will still want to mate. Also if you can get some dense plants, so that the fry can hide otherwise they will get eaten. Even with the plants most will be eaten just gives them a chance to hide.

Sounds like your tank is coming along nicely :)

I have transferred my fish over to the bigger tank using the same filter and has now settled down to double 0's. So I may get a few silver sharks soon

Your tank isn't big enough for silver sharks; they can get to 14" and need to be in a shoal.

Ok. Just went home on my lunch break, decided to check the water, another ammonia spike. Aarrrgggghh!! Lol.

When I get home from work I'll be doing another water change. Think I will only do a 50% and see how it is after that. Hopefully it's only going to be a small cycle so I don't have to. We will see when I get home. Guess I'll be holding back a little longer till I can get some silver sharks.

Ok thanks. I won't get those then :).

I'll think of something else. I thought they ably grew to about 15cm. My mistake

It's quite common to get a little mini-cycle when you've moved tanks; it should take only a day or two to sort itself out. My mum's got silver sharks in a 5'x2'x2' and I wouldn't want to see them put in anything smaller tbh, so I guess you'd better start saving!

Once we have moved out and got everything we and the new baby needs I will get a big tank,( depending on space) with my bonus in March. Still a year to wait then. Unless I can pick up a stupidly cheap one in Friday ad second hand :)

Any other ideas for smaller shoaling fish? I love the look of fish swimming around in shoals. Preferably middle depth swimmers.

Also is it normal for my molly swimming mostly on the bottom of the tank. He looks to be looking for food. Picking up sand then spitting it back out, constantly. Just fed her she came to the top but she will go back down after. I think she is pregnant too. Infact pretty sure she is. Would that be the reason?

Well thats good your tank is settling also :) ooo silver sharks, nice :) yea I need to get some more plants so the female can hide for now, my mums borrowed my car and no where close that sells plants here which sucks! there are 5 plants and 2 'houses' in there but they still follow her everywhere! are you in the uk or states? want any baby platys? lol

you should have a look on ebay for cheap tanks! I see some going for rediculously small amounts of money and wish I had got one on there rather than paying money to a large chain store! we live and we learn though, never buy fish or anyhting from p@home. As long as you disinfect it with some stuff form your local fish store it should be nice and safe for your likkle fishies.
