Help On Adding Salt

Is the amount of salt (pint and a half) roughly correct for a 4 gallen bucket?

Hi guys,

Ok filled up the bucket with RO water (4 gallons worth) heated it up and got the pump going on it added the salt pint and a half and checked this morning over 14 hrs later and the hydrometer is going miles off the top (far too much salt) so my prediction was wrong.

Since then I have added more water and it looks like it will be "roughly" 8 gallonsof RO water for every pint and a half of salt.

I have the temp set at 25, is that ok or should it be higher? also is this the correct temp for the tank / fish when I get round to it?

Any temp, depending on what you plan to keep, between 79-82 is fine. Stability is more important than the set number.

I highly recommend that you toss out the hydrometer and invest in a refractometer. Your precious new marine system is worth the extra few bucks for the accuracy, precision and reliability gained. SH

Hi Mate

I'm Here just trying to learn as much as I can so I'm not going to tell you about mixing water.

What I will say though is be carefull of measurements. The guys helping you endlessly are from the US, thus US gallons not UK gallons.

I think your tank is 180 ltr = 47.5 US gallons.

Nearly there now all going good. the hydrometer is fine when im mixing the bucket but then when i check the progress of the tank it's a little under (even though when im mixing the water in the bucket to add to teh tank its perfect)

Should I add more salt to the tank to get it bang on?
