Hi, the power is being turned off tommorrow for the whole day, and im going to be in work

Has this happened to anyone and did the fish survive?

Im going to try and insulate the tank with a duvet, but still worried that the water is going to get reallycold, im also going to put water bottles filled with hot water in b4 i leave.

I only got the one Oscar, he is around 7 inches now..

I dont know whether to call in sick to work to stay with him, or whether he should be ok?

Do a water change and gravel vac now, to late to buy an airstone with bacteries.
The cover should be fine.

U think he'll be ok, my room will drop to the outside temp, as the heating aint gonna be on either, and my room gets cold! its only gonna be like 5 degrees

What your location will you be able to go and buy an airstone, not sure if you can buy battery operated heaters.

no its 2 late, there are no late pet shops round here. Im in south london, i think i might try and leave work early or something.. i dont want him to die

Or take the day off work and go to the lfs and buy a battery operated airstone and pump.
Or rent a generator.

Just out of interest... why is the power off for a whole day?

the meter is being changed, so we have to switch off ALL appliances, and nobody has to be home to do it as the meter is outside..

so he will be without the whole day - as in unitl i get home

What filter have you got?

If it's internal take the sponges out and float them in the tank. If an external take it to work with you along with a fish bucket & set it up filtering a bucket of dechlorinated water. The filter will stay viable and can get back to work as soon as the power is back on. ( if your work situation allows)
If you can't do this spread the media over several buckets of dechlorinated water as you'll have more bacteria survive than if cooped insde a canister with no water flow.
Don't put hot water bottles in the tank. Cover the tank with duvets etc and then put the bottles, onto this duvet, round & on the tank with another blanket over them too.

I was once snowed in for four days with no power.......& marine & tropical tanks.

I had that done it only takes half an hour.
They will just knock on the door then you turn electric off.

You will have to take a sick day.

Did your fish make it? I have internal & external filters, cant really take the external to work, its not really feasible

There just updating the meter, when they came to our area they knocked on the door, and asked you to turn the electric off, and make sure you unplugged computors and things.
It only took half an hour, the fish should be fine for that length of time.
If someone is at home for the day.

no thats the problem, nobody will be home. what i think im gonna do, is go home sick half way through the day as there are some things in work i really need to do in the morning.. im ringing in sick already weds cause i got an interview. the problem is that i will have to turn the tank off before i leave.

At least if i go home half way, thats only 5 hours or so, 11 seems too long to leave it

I would float the filter mediam and wrap the tank well. Put bankets up over your window and turn up the heat of the room as warm as you can get it before you go. It will take a while for the room to cool and them It will take longer for the tank to cool off. If you can get home at lunch see if they are done and plug in if not just hurry home after work. I had power out in a snow storm for 3 days and all tanks did just fine.
