Hi, just need some info I recently bought a 60ltr tropical fish tank and bought the JAD silent air pump SA-900 I was told by my pet supplier this would be ok for my tank but when I went set up the air pump the air bubbles seem to intense for the tank and my fish were really fighting against the flow. The pump does not have a pressure level it is just the same air flow I used a large airstone and I am unsure whether this is causing the problem.

Just need to know if I have upset the fish too much due to the intense flow or if I am still ok to use it? and what I need to do to rectify the problem is it the air pump or do I need a specifi air stone to help stem the flow from the pump?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Do you know how many litres per hour (l/h) the airpump is rated at?

Welcome to the forum TCM. The air flow from a typical air pump is fairly constant at a particular pressure. If you are getting more air flow than you want, try pushing the air through a gang valve. http://www.arcatapet.com/item.cfm?cat=49 What you can do then is open up the amount of flow you want to your tank and open one of the other valves on the gang valve to bleed off the extra air that you don't want in the tank. If you are lucky enough to have an adjustable air pump, it will have some kind of knob on it that would let you turn down the air and you wouldn't need a way to bleed off extra air. As a side note, unless you are using the air pump to run your filter, you really don't need an air pump at all. I only use one on a few of my tanks, most don't have any air to them. The filter circulating water near the surface of the tank is enough to keep the water saturated with oxygen, so the air bubbles are really decorative instead of needed.

Thank you for the info much appreciated I bought the air pump due to many ppl stating that the airpump was required espically at night when theplants take most of the oxygen. I have a Tetra 60ltr tank which came with a filter which does have a constant flow of water coming out but I was unsure as to whether the fish were getting enough oxygen.

I will look into getting a gang valve just in case but at the moment I will see how the fish get on without the air pump.

Fingers crossed, many thanks again for your help.
