Help Needed With Malawis

hi need help and advice with some malawis ive always been interested in keeping them but have american cichlids so couldnt keep together
but just got offered a batch of 30 mixed malawis very cheap.

i can get a tank heater and filter but have never done a cycle with fish init could i use water from my existing setup to reduce chance of nitrate spikes and bacteria bloom as if i want them have to pick them up by monday.

isit worth trying any advice welcome thanks alot louis

Water won't do any good; there no bacteria to speak of loose in the water column.

What you can do is take up to a third of the media from your established filter and put that in the new filter.

You will have to test both tanks every day and feed sparingly for the first few days, but that's the only way to avoid a full on fish-in cycle (which you don't want to be doing!).

cheers for the advice think im gonna hold off until i no more about the fish and there needs rather then rushing in wait until i move and il set my 450ltr up for malawis n make my monster tank for my american cichlids cheers for the advice though much appreciated
