Hi,

I know this is tropical emergencies but coldwater is very similar.

I have had a tank with fish in for 2 and half years.

1 Chinese sucking loach
4 orandas
Amm - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 10
PH- 6.8

Earlier this week i had an black morr died which id had for over 2.5 years, out of the blue, nothing wrong the night before. The following afternoon the fish was dead on the bottom of the tank, a pale color, with all its fins frayed.

Now i have another fish 5 days later showing signs of the same fraying - not finrot or ick i dont think. Please see pics below and let me know your thoughts. I have just done a 50% water change.

Both fish showed no problems, symptoms etc. This came on very suddenly. No new fish added, water change 1 week and half ago.

Below is a link to a video of him :(

Any ideas would be great.

what size tank do you have?
what type of filter?
what do you feed and how often?
how often do you do a water change and how do you do it? (take me through the steps please :) )

Remove the chinese algae eater. They are infamous for destroying fish by attacking them at night while they are sleeping.

tank size: 180l
filter: tetratec ex1200
feed. aquarium fish food flakes, once daily
water change: 1nce every 2 weeks
siphon water into a bucket 35% refill and pour water into tank.

I have been doing this process for 2 and a half years with no problems and the algae eater has been on the tank for 2 years with no problems....

It may well have been in there for some time, but once they get to a decent size they will turn into a more carnivourus (spell?) type and attack your other fish for fun or food.

Its definatly money on that it is your loach, I too had the same problem but it was only one tetra when I found out and was able to remove it. If your unable to totally remove it try and isolate it in your tank or at least split it so your other fish are ok.

Not sure if there is a melafix for goldies or if its ok in cold water, but would do a decent water change with some added and hope your fish are able to calm down from the stress of probably being attacked.

Sorry about your loss also!! :(

thank you for your help. I think it could be stress related, brought on by a disease. that fish is normally bright Orange, its now white.

I have added doses of esha 2000 and esha exit and hopefully we won't lose anymore
