Anyone know a good website to introduce my dad to the cichlid family, or more specifically, big new world cichlids? He is going to set up his own 120+ tank, and he wants "big, aggressive fish", but he's dead-set on getting piranhas!!! Help me introduce him to new world cichlids in a way that'll make him see that cichlids are the way to go if you want big, aggressive fish!! Please help me!

P.S. My dad is a beginning aquarist (I'll be taking care of the fish once he selects them) so he doesnt even know what cichlids, cyprinids, etc. are.

lots.

www.tropicaltank.co.uk
just do a google search and you'll find tons.

The link that Pica put up is by far and away the best cichlid site on the web.

Cichlid-Forum

I am not trying to advertise it but the wealth of info on that site dedicated to cichlids is insane.

with your dad setting up a 120. here are some thoughs just off the top of my head

Midas, Trimac, Amphilious Zalious( arrow cichlid) , Hatian cichlid, any pike from the lugubris group. they like to be kept in groups as juvies but once they become adults it is all out war with any other fish in the tank, red tiger motas, could keep a dovii in a tank that size for awhile anyways would have to eventually upgrade to 200+ but it would suit. Festae, an umbee would have to be upgraded aswell eventually but it is do able.

geos aren't usually lumped into the group of large CA/SA cichlids that are preditory/agressive. that list provided would be a good list of alternate cichlids to pirhanas

Thanks guys! Any cichlid is better than piranhas, and the sites you guys gave me will be a good starting point to introduce my dad to cichlids. Anyone know the dimensions of a 200 gallon tank?
