so i have live plants n my 10 gal and a week or so ago i found a snail in there. it was small but i took him out and put him in with the other baby snails i have. i just found another one and now i really hope there are no more. is there anything that would kill the snails (if there are any left) but not the fish?

i agree, plus the assassins don't reproduce as far as i can tell so they can be easily removed once the problem is over

guppies and platies lurve a squashed snail as a treat :hyper:

i looked up assassin snails- not the kind i have. i will get a pic. i did find another shortly after i posted. i did remove the plants (the foxtails are dying and the swords and grass are in the 5 gal) so now there is just the black gravel and 7 glow in the dark plants! the gravel it still really dirty even though i vacuumed it so i will clean it them i am done cleaning all of my tanks.

Assassin snails do reproduce in home aquaria, but not as fast as pest snails. Mine have bred but not become a nuisance themselves. And you need little assassins to get the little pests. They can only eat snails big enough to get their probe into.

Assassin snail do reproduce, but unlike many pest snails, assassins need both male and female to breed.

I worded that pretty badly :/ i know that they mate, but not as frequently as other snails

**why cant i post pics from photobucket by using the

Hello Como

On your photbucket page and to the right of your picture you will see a "Links" box.
LEFT click in the IMG code box and you will see the text say copied.
Come to the forum, RIGHT click and click on PASTE at the point at which you want to insert your picture and you'll end up with something like this - which I believe was what you wanted to post in the first place?

+1

All snails are asexual and therefore only need 2 of them to reproduce. Assassins don't reproduce as nearly as quickly as most aquatic snails though, as previously stated.
