Help Me Stop The Arguement.....

was having an arguement with someone yesterday, who USED to keep fish.

i said that barbs would eat guppy fry. am i right?

However if you have breeding guppies in with other fish you can guarantee that at some point they'll miss one or 2 (or loads in my case ) and you'll end up with new guppies. So yes they will eat them but no they won't necessarily stop you getting new guppies every now and then.

the other fish may eat too many and die. thats happened to me before not very nice

nope. its all to do with instincts and energy saving i think. like they would rather use little energy to get food (like just sit there waiting for the fry to swim into their mouth) than have to compete with other fish (swimming fast to get the food). it just saves energy. and their brains dont really have the power to think to stop eating because usually they wont need it lol if there's food, they'll eat it.
my swordtail, which was with the guppies, ate all the baby guppies. i thought it was pregnant at first but it just ate too much
