Help Me Stock My Tank!

wow, the pearl gourami is beautiful! I have been watching some videos tonight, they are so slow and graceful (almost discus esk!) But do you not think my tank might be a bit on the small side for it?

any more input from anyone on this? i'm going to take a walk round to my LFS in 20 minutes to have a browse and maybe a buy!

LFS will gladly accept the babies.

YOu could probably start off with a common pleco. If you have algae, then good. But if you dont, get some spirulina or algae chips.

Or a cory. Small one, like an albino or a panda. Theyll eat shrimp pellets. Remember they cant live off fish poop. They need real food too.

not all lfs's will take the babies, plenty of them are inundated with them and can't sell them

a common plec is a silly idea, they get to 12" + so clearly waaaay too big for the tank

cories need to be in groups of 6+ although they would make a good choice

WOW those albino cories look like something off of another planet....awsome They shall definatly be considered!

How would people rate the Zebra Pleco for a novice?

Also anyone have any thaughts or feelings on the galaxy rasboras, my LFS has a few of these little beauties!

got a spare few quid lying around then have you, zebra plecs usually retail for around £150+ each, you can hardly every buy them just as a single one, lfs's don't stock them because they're so rare, people breed them and they'll generally only sell them as a breeding group to someone else who intends to breed them to increase the numbers of them. Nice if you can get them but really only for the serious pleco fanatic IMHO

what are the dimensions? i don't think they've been mentioned

if your going to your lfs you could easily right down the names of all the species they sell which you like and then we can help you build a stocking out of those

Good suggestion Davo, go to the lfs (without your wallet) and write down everything that catches your eye, we can then work around it and see if we can make a sensible stocking list for you
