lol i have a 29 gallon tank and i only have 7 baby tiger barbs n 2 chinese algae eaters(which ill be returning soon.)so my tank is a bit empty so help. how many fishes can i keep in a 29 g? i heard 1 fish for each gallon so 29? well i wanna get some corys(3) and maybe a dwarf chichlid? and fancy guppies? please suggestions

The guppies first off wont go with the tiger barbs, although they may not nip the guppies at all there is always that possibility. I have 7 tiger barbs and they seem to leave my mollys and swordtails alone but thats probably because the tiger barbs are smaller than them!! :)

I personally think that sword tails are amazing, great colours, great variety in tail shapes etc... (and in my opinion they kick guppies out of the water in terms of looks!!)

I find that black mollys offer a contrasting feature in a lightly coloured and well lit tank, but they are prone to getting ill if they are stressed yet I have yet to see that (plus they like a bit of salt in their water so maybe not great in a freshwater tank)

Any gourami would suit, tiger barbs in groups of 6+ tend to leave a single gourami alone. Sharks such as the bala and the red finned shark do grow large and would not suit a 29 gallon but maybe for future reference they go well with tiger barbs!

As you can see, the decision on fish must first be cross checked on whether tiger barbs are compatable with them!!

I think the rule is 1 inch of fish per gallon. so maybe a total of 29 inches of fish for your tank.

Since you have baby tiger barbs fancy guppies will be out because barbs tend to nip at long fins. I've always wanted to try a school of 8-10 neons with a group of cories on the bottom, but since you have 7 barbs perhaps a group of one of these fish zebra danios, school of 8ish neons, maybe some gouramis, once again I think the tigers will nip at their "feelers" its all a matter of what you want, just look in the fish index at certain fish and post what fish you like most and see what members thinking about your stocking selection.

Once those 7 tiger barbs are grown up, there won't be a vast amount of space in the upper/middle layers of the tank, so I'd let them have that to themselves and add something fairly sturdy to the bottom levels. A bristlenose plec would do nicely, would add a bit of interest, keep algae down and not be bothered by the barbs.
