I'm itching to buy something new! What should I buy? Fish, plants, equipment, decorations... Anything*! Right now my tank(s) are all pretty low tech minus the external filters that my dad splashed out on (without my knowledge), so I always have room for improvement I suppose.

My quarantine tank is currently using a clip-on reading light as a substitute for a proper light, and the right side of my 170L is looking a little scarce and I don't really know what it's missing.

Go crazy with suggestions, I'm just aching to buy something new for my tank(s). I don't really have a preference between beneficial or complete useless, so, again, go crazy.

*Within reason... Also no tanks! I'm on a hard ban from getting more tanks now.

The QT tank light should suffice, as you aren’t (or shouldn’t) be growing any plants in there.

I would get more plants for your 170L.

Any suggestions? I was thinking about a thicket of moss so I could eventually get some cherry shrimp or something, but I'm not set on that of course.

I would look for taller plants, possibly Vals or Amazon Swords.

What do you have in there now? (Also a picture will help)

Right now I have both of those, as well as elodea densa.

The elodea isn't looking too healthy in the front, as I'm sure you can already tell. Sorry for all the bits in the water, just cleaned my filter.

The java moss in the 54L looks really healthy right now, but I'm not sure if it's growing the way I'd like it to. I'd really like a fast-growing carpet plant that has fast results. Should I just get a huge stockpile of plants rather than waiting for it to grow into a carpet?

move the elodea farther away from light, it is pretty healthy, just that for example in a high light lake (i went yesterday) they are black but still super healthy
it was a magical moment lol, there was many trout swimming around me

The one in question is actually further away from the light than the healthy ones... Plus this light pretty much illuminates everything in the tank. Maybe I should trim it down and put in the quarantine tank?

yea, maybe try to trim it...
strange, but they should also be dark green when far away from light. try moving it around and cutting bits off to test where is best
hornwort turns light brown when in light

No its a floater that hangs on to another thing rn
I personally would, I find they grow best planted.

Then I would look into getting some hardscape, and I mean real hardscape. Large stones (of your choice), driftwood, etc.
