Help Me Choose An Iwagumi Shoal

I am having a hard time deciding, also is 30 a suitable number for a 76x46x50 (160 litres)?

There will most likely be one or two Zebra Ottos.

What plants will feature in the Iwagumi? The most striking would be T.espei or T.hengeli as they tend to shoal better than most other species, I think 30 would be fine also.

Hemianthus callitrichoides, Blyxa japonica and perhaps E. tenellus. I will either use Honeycomb rock or Lava Field Stone (Poor Mans Seiryu Stone) depending on availability.

I love Rasbora also, I have had them in the past, I just think it will be interesting to see peoples responses, the consensus online seems to be that rummynose and cardinals are the best for Iwagumi. I guess it is entirely opinionated though.

Well you could go for an American shoaling fish and have a biotope iwagumi (although the Blyxa will be an exception.)

A biotope would be good, if I set one up it would have to be an Asian theme, full of ferns and crypts. Fish availability is another issue, I cannot even think of a shoaling American fish off my head

Living in Australia I could always do a native Iwagumi (such a thing?) with glosso, Blyxa aubertii and some rainbowfish or neon blue eyes, But I would rather go with HC because it looks incredible

There are many, most if not all Tetra's are from south America.

oh I immediately thought central America not South America lol, how do these fish cope under high light? Like 96W of T5HO? Rasbora's like subdued lighting, will intense lighting affect them?

I've kept quite a few species under intense lighting, as long as they have places to shield themselves from it, such as under plant leaves etc then I'm sure they'll do fine.

In that tank I can't see why you can't have both 20 Espei and 20 Hengeli. That would look lovely, a nice splash of yellow and orange, not to mention that they would probably shoal together really well. I'd go for both

Hate to dig up an old thread, but I just purchased a 16 Gallon cube (40cm X 40cm X 40cm)

Aqadivsor said that 15 Rasbora or Tetra should be 80%ish of my stock (Eheim 2213)

I personally think that they might be too cramped

I was looking at Microrasbora, but they seem to have the same stocking percentage as Rasbora

Any opinions?

Ignore the calculators, if it's a new tank, use the 1 inch per gallon rule of thumb, also, I wouldn't put standard rasboras such as Trigonostigma species or most tetra's in a tank that size; Boraras spp. would be much better suited.

In a 16 Gallon I'd feel comfortable putting 20 or so Boraras spp.in there.

in an Gumi, i always think Espei looks better as a shoal. I think i'd put 25-30 in a 160ltr, with some Oto's and shrimp.

Reason being, our holiday house and boat burnt down thanks to our neighbors, so I have had to cut back on shifts to help out my parents while being at uni managing exams and car rego is due. (I only work 2-3 days a week)

How could anyone say no to that deal? A importer in Australia is doing a one time offer where he finds interest in tanks and imports a few test tanks, he also stocks CADE tanks (Not sure if they are big around the world?)

So basically this tank will become my high tech, the 6.8 Cylinder will fit perfectly inside the cabinet (I was previously going to have to run cables and tubing thorough the wall :\ )

24W x 2 Compact Fluorescent 6k range, Eheim 2213, Hydor Inline 200W, Still debating whether or not to use a inline diffuser. Lily Pipes etc.

Keep it minimalistic, HC, Chainsword and Blyxa, probably a shoal of Microrasbora.

Dont worry a journal will follow this tank , I cannot wait. Only problem is that I am probably going to have to use Up Aqua Soil because ADA is hard to source in Australia right now.

So excited, as for the existing tank, I have thought about a catfish only tank (I just have a thing for them) or a Jungle Theme with just Java Fern, Anubias and Crypts.

As soon as I begin a journal will follow

sounds great mate, and what a deal with the tank. Looks like an ADA! With it being a cube you're gonna have more of an challenge scaping it, so good luck. Remember to be 100% happy with your rock placements before you plant.
