Hi guys, I have a 5 foot fresh water tropical tank and I'm using an ehiem 2012 internal filter, It generally keeps the water clear however there is a lot of fine particles in the water, is this filter too small for my tank? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not too sure, I'll take a pic of the pump details
I think it's 220 - 570, dose this sound right?

maybe you need to add more filter floss to it

It just has like a synthetic filter block / sponge in it that you just wring out when it's time too clean it, I usually do it every 2 weeks

you may need to get some floss and cut it to size and put a layer or two after the sponges--it traps fine particles

I've got the same filter on my current tank, I had a similar problem for a while but when I opened the canister I found the plastic mesh on the top (which holds all the media in) had snapped away from the casing so water wasn't filtering properly through the pads. Once I fixed this the water was crystal clear again within a day.

I'd check that, but also concour with the guys above that might need your filter squeezing or more filtration added.

That filter is aimed for tanks 100-200L (so 100L as you always go with minimum for internals). So your tank is what? 400L? yeah... id say hugely under filtered....
