hey, i have noticed resently that my clown knife has two whitish, light, faded ovals on his back. his personality and attitude has not seemed to change but I just want to know what the spots are from? one problem i think is could have arised from is his diet mainly feeder gold fish from the pet store, is there any sort of disease that can arrise from that? while i do clean the tank frequently he lives with several large african cichlids and a gar and they creat quite a messy tank. i have been starting to worry that the nitrite levels from the fish waste may be getting to high. i really i have no clue what it came from or what it is. He is a beautiful fish 12 inches now with nine gorgeous spots on his tail, so im hoping there is nothing serious wrong with him. please give me any advise you can to help nurse him back to health. thanks in advance! :good:

Ok mate a few things....never feed goldfish from fish stores as feeders, if you do use feeders use you own stock,
Second its not healthy to use goldfish as feeders there not nutritional at all and carry/harbour dieseases,

Ok a picture would help alot, whats the water change routine like?

What size is your tank?

What filteration do you have?

Full stock list please?

What are your readings from the tank? nitrate/nitrite/ammonia etc?

What temp is the tank maintained at?

Try now with a waterchange and get a good healthy pellet food from lfs/also get some prawns from your local food shop,if frozen defrost and feed them, you will probally find it hard to wean of live food but bere with it, could try live feeder shrimp aswell...

Well i looked again this evening and the wierd spots seemed to have gone away so im not sure what it was. but.....

fish:
10 inch gar
12 inch clown knife
4, 4-6 inch various zebra cichlids
4 inch front
6 inch sun catfish
2 plecs

the tank is a 120 gallon

the filtration is simply a HOB cascade 300 and a large power head ( i know this is not optimal i have been looking for a better filtration system)

we do about a 20% water change weekly

keep the water at about 80 degrees F

I havent check the pH, ammonia or nitrate levels in awhile i should go tomorrow and get a test kit
