Welcome to TFF newt1! Meguro has you on the right track with the beginner's resource center link above. Contained in those articles is just about all the information you will need to get your tank up and running. Set some time aside to read through them. There's a lot there to absorb and if you have any questions, feel free to post back here and we will try our best to answer them.

Pay particular heed to the cycling of the tank articles - you have a fairly big decision to make on either "fishless cycle" or "fish-in cycle".

Heya!

Have a read of the information in the Beginners' Resource Centre that was linked by meguro. It has a lot of vital information that many pet shops and old-time fishkeepers (such as family friends who have kept fish for years) don't know or won't tell you.

Once you've read that and got a good grip on water changes and how to cycle a tank, have a think about what fish you would like. With a fishless cycle (which we would almost always recommend) you'll have several weeks to get a really exciting stocking plan sorted. It's also important to think carefully about your decorations because a lot of the stuff sold (bright pink gravel, air-powered ornaments, etc) are not the best thing for the fish and some can actually cause harm. It's always a good idea to consider what decorations will provide your fish with a natural, stress free home!
