So I went over to my nephew today because he called me saying that he has two female bettas. I went there and I was confused why the small red one kept chasing the big blue one. I can identify that the blue one is a female because of its super short fin and dorsals and huge body, but the red one I was a bit confused. Can someone tell me if this red guy is a male plakat or a female.

Sorri the picture is so bad i didnt have my camera there so I had to use my phone.

If you look at the base of the "betta beard" in the back if you see a white dot it's a female, if not it's a plakat! Female bettas will chase each other around though, I had two females living together peacefully until one got sick, then the other would chase it around, and nip it's fins :(

I see, although I;m stll not quite sure if I understand it fully... Perhaps I will bring my camera to take a better shot, in the mean time I had him separate them.

Another Picture of the bottom of the betta would be helpful, it's the easiest way I know of to tell male and female bettas apart. It's best to have females in trios or more if you're going to have more than one anyways, it's difficult to keep two females together, although I know firsthand that it can be done!

Can't really tell from thats picture. Theres a link in my sig that shows what to look out for ;)

There will be aggression though as theres only 2, females need a group of 5 minimum

Without seeing a better photo I'd say female.

As lilfishie said females need to be in a bigger group than 2 otherwise the more dominant one will eventually kill the other one.
