TBH, I used this method for many years until I was `shouted at`in a local shop for doing so. The guy who worked there told me I shouldn`t be filling directly from a hose for various reasons. I might start doing it again now after reading this thread

Well you have to make sure to dechlorinate it, and make sure the temperature is the same. Geoff1991, in some cases in South American fish, they will start to reproduce due to the flooding the rainy season brings. I do not fully agree with you in that they like a temperature change, I think a small temperature change is bearable and a signal for reproduction in the case I stated, I would not go as far as to say they like temperature change.
It is still better in a lot of cases to age your water, but it gives you time for the water to gas off, especially if you have lots of C02 in the water which can change pH.
