The blue crowntail I have been trying to save has been getting worse and worse. Over the past 48 hours I took him from full strength ick medication to half and then to zero this afternoon, because it seemed to coincide with his recovery reversing and his condition crashing. But he still kept getting worse. His eyes have turned yellow/brown and cloudy. It looks like there is a little white fuzz strand on one of his eye balls. Now his ick spots seem to be coming back. His breathing is very labored and in the past 10 minutes he has twice gone upside down and then yanked himself upright again. He is just lying on his side on the bottom now. Does anybody have an idea of what I could try to do? I already posted the question on the Emergency forum as well, but I had not gotten an answer there in the last 5 hours, so I am trying here. It is breaking my heart. He is fighting so hard, but it seems to be a loosing battle....

Never mind. He just died. It is such a shame - he was such a fighter! I wanted to name him Samurai. I think it would have been a very fitting name. I feel bad that not only did he have to die, but he was never even given a name. I can only hope I never again have to watch a fish fight all the way to his grave like this. It was so sad ... : (

Oh no, I am so sorry. Sometimes, it doesn't matter haw hard you try, you still can't save a fish. You tried so hard for him and did your best, but sometimes there is nothing you can do :( xx

Dear guys, Thanks for your support. I also read what you wrote on the other forum LauraFrog and this makes sense. It sure was not for lack of trying ... If nothing else, it definitely taught me the importance of proper daily care and not letting illnesses get to such a bad state. Ever since I have had this "hospital patient" and started searching the net and found out about all these fish diseases, I have been scrutenizing Azumo on a daily basis. Luckily despite my paranoia I cannot find a single scale out of place on him. : )

You should have seen him at the end. Azumo's bowl was higher up and there was only a small area where the bowls were close. Over the past week Azumo would sometimes swim by and flare at the patient. But when I came into the office tonight Azumo was just floating there right above where the sick fish was, completely motionless - just looking down at him and (i know, i know, he's just a fish), but I would have sworn he had a concerned look, like he felt really sorry for the little guy. I ended up feeling sorry for both of them ... : )
