Help finding cichlids for new tank !

Backgrounds up to you, my opinion would be black but I'm likely wrong at this
black tends to bring out the colors more so black sand was a good choice

However might I suggest you do a couple more yellow labs, sixish
and If you are going with a HOB filter you should be able to pick up an aquaclear 110 or 70 for about the same price as the emporer and it is a much much better filter

alright , i will look into that filter you suggested. but why do you say that.. look at the link earlier in the post, which is the best in your opinion, i hear the bio-wheel is awsome..?
and why do you say that i should get more yellow labs ? that would mean 12 cichlids and 2 catfish. isnt that a lot for 40 gallons ?

I don't understand. I though you already had a bio-wheel.

Here is the truth of filters: You'll find fans of most of them because most of them do the job. Aquaclears, an economical filter without any bio-wheels work just as well as those with them. Go with any power filter that suits your budget, and one that is powerful enough for an mbuna tank, and you'll be singing.

I already explained earlier two legitimate reasons why more labs are recommended, however keeping only 4 will be fine.

ahhh haha sorry about that, i think i overlooked that post. so labs need to be in more than a couple, i got that now. i think that will work fine, 6 of each breed and 2 cats.
and no i dont have a filter yet, i was just saying that i was going to get the Penguin Bio-Wheel. i just heard from someone else that the Aquaclear was better, i like the fact that the bio-wheel gets rid of ammonia and nitrates on contact, or something like that ! i can get the penguin bio-wheel 350gph model for 29$ no shipping too, so i think its a good deal
