Hi on of my giant danios has a piece of plant stuck in his mouth, its like the stringy hard bit i saw it last night and its still there now, he is still fine eating and not bothered but do i need to try to get it out.. not sure how its stuck ? i think its cause its so long... not sure what to do ? Will it rot and get soft and fall out on its own or do i need to net him to remove it ??

thanks

Well, with my expierience with danios, I have found they are the hardest fish to remove. And once you get them out of the tank, they wont just sit still. So, you can remove it. So. best bet is just to let it be.

Sorry you had to move this i was not sure if it was urgent enough to be an emergency !?!? yes i figured it would be best to leave it but didnt know if it could ulcerate or something !!

Had a similar problem with one of my guppies recently, but as guppies are calmer fish, was able to just keep her in the net within the tank while I pulled the thing out of her mouth. Suppose that might be impossible with a danio.

You will have to remove it or it will get infected, get a peice of cloth soak it in tank water, remove him, sterilise some tweezers and remove it gently, then add some melafix to the tank, good luck.

how will it get infected??? its a piece of plant! i mean if plants infect fish... why are they in the water??? :/

not sure i put it on here to find out if bacteria from rotting cause infection ??? i guess if it siuts there for a while and cuts into flesh its open to any infection ??

it will infect if it has created an open wound ...aquariums = breeding ground of bacteria!
