My grandparents have an outdoor fish pond. It is an 8x4 and I am not sure how tall it is but maybe 4 feet? My grandma is usually the one to clean it and it’s been a real struggle. It is overgrown with algae. I was thinking maybe she should get a pleco but I realized that it would probably be to cold for it in the winter because we live in New York. I am just trying to help her out so it is a bit easier for her to clean it. I am not sure what kind of filter she uses but she does have one. There’s maybe about 5 to 6 comets in there. Here are some pictures, thank you for all your help!!

Creating some shade over the pond will help in the long term

I doubt there is too much you can do. Algae will be present in any standing water that has good light and nutrients, and the fish will provide these. Shade may help, and as with indoor aquaria, look at floating plants. Water hyancinth, water lettuce come to mind, I had these in my summer goldfish pond. Do not overfeed the fish. What goes in must come out as nutrients for algae.
